The short answer

Ask about their method, what a session actually looks like, how they handle skepticism, what happens if you don't see anything, and whether they record the session. Also ask about cost upfront and whether there are packages. A good practitioner will answer clearly without pressure.

Key takeaways

  • Ask about the method before you book: A real session uses guided hypnotherapy, not fortune telling. If they cannot describe their process, that is a red flag.
  • Price transparency matters: Get the full cost upfront, including any packages. Horror stories often start with hidden fees.
  • Recording is standard: A good practitioner records the session and gives it to you. If they do not, ask why.
  • Skepticism is welcome: If a practitioner requires belief or shuts down your questions, walk away.

You have a fear, a dream, or a pull that won't explain itself. You have done the research, read the accounts, and now you are ready to book a session. But the space is unregulated, prices vary wildly, and horror stories exist. One person described paying over $5,700 for what they called a public humiliation. Another was offered unlimited sessions for $4,000. Before you hand over your money or your trust, there are specific questions you can ask to separate a professional from someone who should not be in this work.

My name is Danny. I work with clients using a clinical hypnotherapy approach, not a psychic reading. I do not claim credentials or titles. This article covers what to ask a practitioner before booking, based on real accounts from people who have been through it.

We read real accounts of people who booked sessions and what they wish they had known

In our review of thousands of posts and comments, people shared their experiences, good and bad, about what they asked (or did not ask) before their session. The most useful insights came from those who regretted not asking the right questions upfront. The biggest pattern was price shock and lack of clarity about what the session actually involved. People who had a good experience almost always said the practitioner was transparent about method, cost, and what to expect. The bad experiences often involved vague answers and pressure to buy packages.

1. What Method Do You Use?

This is the most important question. A legitimate past life regression session uses clinical hypnotherapy, a guided relaxation technique where the practitioner asks questions and you do the seeing. It is not a psychic reading. If the practitioner says they will tell you about your past lives, or that they can access your akashic records, that is a different service. Past life regression is a specific technique, not a general psychic ability.

One person described their session: "When I started the session with him, he guided me towards my past life. At first it happened subtly, he guided me by asking questions, to analyze my body and making sure i was relaxed as possible." That is what a real session sounds like. If the practitioner cannot describe their method in plain language, or if they say something like "I channel your past lives," that is a red flag.

Ask: "Can you walk me through what happens in a session, step by step?" A good practitioner will be happy to explain.

2. How Much Does It Cost, and Are There Packages?

Prices in this space range from $110 for a single session to $4,000 for unlimited sessions to over $5,700 for a package that one person described as a nightmare. "In the end, I paid over $5,700 for what amounted to a public humiliation and a verbal scolding from someone who, in my opinion, displays narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies," they wrote. That is the kind of experience you want to avoid.

Ask for the price of a single session upfront. If they offer packages, ask what each package includes and whether you can start with a single session first. A practitioner who pressures you into a multi-session package before you have even tried one session is a red flag.

At Past Life Center, a single session is $299. There is a 3-session Thread for $799 and a Program for $2,499, but you can start with a single session and decide from there. No hidden fees.

3. Do You Record the Session?

Recording is standard in this field. The session is your experience, and you should be able to listen to it again later. Many people find that the second or third listen reveals details they missed during the session itself.

One practitioner noted: "I like to record the session to give to the client afterwards." That should be the norm. If a practitioner does not record, ask why. If they charge extra for the recording, that is a red flag.

At Past Life Center, every session is recorded and given to you. No extra charge.

Make sure you get what you pay for.

4. What If I Don't See or Feel Anything?

This is a common fear. Some people go into a session and nothing happens. They do not see images, they do not feel anything, and they worry something is wrong with them.

It is not unusual. Some people respond right away. Others need more than one session. A good practitioner will tell you that upfront and will not pressure you to force an experience.

One person described their fear: "I get that people can feel skeptical about this until they have first hand experience!" Another said: "Like when he tells you to envision what they were wearing or a big moment in their life, my brain was like 'hmmm, let's just say they did this' and it doesn't feel real, it feels like I'm making it up." That is normal.

Ask: "What do you do if a client doesn't see anything?" A good answer is: "We work with whatever comes up, even if it is just a feeling or nothing at all. Sometimes the subconscious needs time."

5. Can I Talk to You About My Skepticism?

A good practitioner welcomes skepticism. They know that many of their clients arrive with doubt. "I'm skeptical, but believe, if that makes sense," is how one person described their stance. Another said: "I have skepticism about whether we can truly recall, or experience things from past lives and be certain the experience isn't just created by our own subconscious or imagination."

If a practitioner dismisses your skepticism or tells you that you need to believe for it to work, that is a red flag. A professional will say something like: "You don't have to believe anything. Curiosity is enough. The process works whether you are skeptical or not."

Ask: "What do you say to people who are skeptical?" The answer should be open and non-defensive.

💡
Pro tip
If a practitioner requires you to believe in reincarnation or past lives before the session, that is a red flag. The method works with curiosity alone.

6. Are You Certified or Licensed?

This is a tricky one. The field is unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a past life regressionist. Some practitioners claim to be board certified by organizations that have little oversight. One person noted: "Flairs: I agree that something is amusingly off if a subreddit mod is doing more to verify the legitimacy of 'certified hypnotists' than the government." Another suggested replacing "certified hypnotist" flairs with "self-claimed certified hypnotist."

So what do you ask? Instead of asking for a credential, ask about their training and experience. How long have they been practicing? How many sessions have they done? Can they describe their training program? A good practitioner will be transparent about their background without leaning on a meaningless title.

At Past Life Center, Danny does not claim credentials or titles. Trust comes from transparency and the experience of clients, not a certificate.

Questions this page answers

What is the most important question to ask before booking?

Ask about their method. If they cannot describe it clearly, that is a red flag. A real session uses guided hypnotherapy, not psychic reading.

How much should a session cost?

Prices vary widely. In the VOC bank, people mentioned $110 for a single session up to $5,700 for a bad experience. Past Life Center charges $299 for a single session with no hidden fees.

Should I buy a package upfront?

It is safer to start with a single session. If a practitioner pressures you into a multi-session package before you have tried one, that is a red flag.

Is it normal to feel like I am making it up?

Yes. Many people describe that feeling. It does not mean the session is not working. A good practitioner will normalize it.

Do I need to believe in past lives for this to work?

No. Curiosity is enough. Skepticism is welcome and normal.

What if the practitioner claims to be certified?

The field is unregulated. Certification does not guarantee quality. Focus on their experience and transparency instead.

Booking a past life regression session is a personal decision. The right practitioner will answer your questions clearly, be transparent about cost and method, and welcome your skepticism.
